Participation Course Topics - Local Anesthesia & Enhanced Techniques
Dissection, Demonstration Anatomy, Participation in Local Anesthesia, TMJ, and Muscles of Mastification
Participation course recommended for dentists and also for hygienists licensed to administer local anesthesia

This participation level technique course is designed for the dentist and dental hygienist who have a special interest in pain control and patient management techniques. The essential approaches to mandibular and maxillary anesthesia will be taught and opportunities to practice them offered them in a controlled clinical environment, under direct supervision. The Akinosi and Gow-Gates Mandibular Blocks and the Maxillary Block will be taught. Problem solving and troubleshooting of the Conventional Mandibular Block and many other technical aspects of anesthesia will also lead to a discussion of what’s new and accepted in mandibular infiltration and intraligamentary and intraosseous systems.

This is a full day CE program divided into a didactic first half day of unlimited attendance and a following half day of full hands-on participation with limited enrollment. The hands-on can not be done in hotels. It must be done in a dental clinic, an oral surgery department, or a dental office facility in order to have the local anesthetic armamentarium available to the participants. We also may need some additional personnel as supervisors for the various techniques, but only if enrollment exceeds 15. This also in itself sometimes determines the enrollment limit. This program is best run on the following morning, after the full day program entitled “Local Anesthesia: Pharmacology and Technique Update”.

This has been a very popular course for dentists and also for hygienists who are licensed to administer local anesthesia. Dr. Hawkins founded this program in 1982 and has presented it numerous times throughout North America.
